Disneyland Vs Disneyworld

I was thinking about this and I went to several blogs to find if anyone had any opinions on Disneyland versus Disneyworld. Most people just posted about visiting these places or the fond memories they had of first meeting Mickey Mouse.

Why were two built and is there difference? They both have Micky Mouse, they both have that castle--don't they? I have been to both as a child. I don't remember a difference.

And why am I thinking about this so late in the night? Maybe because of the travel commercials. But these travel commercials point mostly to Disneyworld.

I'm tired. I'll write a real post tomorrow.

  • Business-wise, I think it only has to do with reaching more people. They are at different places in USA, aren't they.
    Disneyland is the original though.

  • [in a high monotone] Soon all places will be Disney.

Is this what keeps you up at night?

  • I've been told that DisneyWorld is better for kids since it's newer, and since it's in Florida, it's the EAST SIDE!!!

  • I have only been to Disneyland once. I have never been to Disneyworld, but have alwasy wanted to go. I didn't go until I was 18 though and the whole time I was there, I was thinking, "man this would have been even more fun as a kid." I absolutely loved the Tiki Hut with all the birds and the Alice n' wonderland Tea cup ride. Oh and the Pirates of the Carabean boat ride. I am going to make sure that my two kids go as kids so that they have that experience that I didn't as a kid.

  • I ahve been to neither, I did think about visiting DL Paris a few years back, but as it rains a lot I didnt think it would have been much fun..

I am not a theme park sort of person, I went on the tea cup ride at Camelot in the UK a few years back and was ill for the rest of the day!

  • If I remember this right, Walt Disney didn't like how confined Disneyland was. There was little room for expansion and the properties adjacent to Disneyland had become an eyesore--cheap hotels, side attraction, etc. So when Walt decided that he was going to build Disneyland II, he wanted to make sure that he was in control of a larger area surrounding the park. Using a front, he bought up large tracks of land in Florida for cheap. Then he could build Disneyland II which would become the Magic Kingdom and perhaps realize his dream of also making a prototype community which was recast as EPCOT.

California's Disneyland and Florida's Magic Kingdom are similar but they do have notable differences. The ones that I remember most were It's a Small World and Frontier Land. Also, Disneyland had this Matterhorn ride while the Magic Kingdom did not.

The castles are different as well, but I didn't notice them at the time except for one exception. Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle had this "ride" where you could walk into the castle and along the walk you could see miniatures of the movie. Dineyworld's Cinderella Castle did not. Plus there's the architectual differences as well.

I've only been to Disneyland that one time when I was really young. I would love to go again, but when I think of it I think that I would prefer Disneyworld. The four parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM, and Animal Kingdom) easily take an entire week up. Also, it has my favorite park which is Epcot.

    Sorry for the ramble.

Hey, thanks for visiting and commenting on my site!

  • I don't like to stand in line, so unless I have kids I'm not going to either.

  • I have never been to Disneyland. I have been to DisneyWorld. I have seen a few specials on tv. I think DisneyWorld is bigger and newer!
    Plus, I love Epcott!

  • Disneyland is older...it's great, but Disneyland is so much bigger and better.

  • I think it is like the east coast vs. west coast rap wars. Mickey from Disneyland tried to pop a cap in Mickey from Disneyworld. Or I could be sniffing too much glue this week again.

  • Disneyland wins hands down. Close hotels, better food, better weather, has all of DW's rides in 2 parks and has only 10% less attractions than DW, prices are better (Disneyland is $70 compared to DW's $115), heck even the theming at DL is better. Disney World is too overpriced and you can get barely anything you want done done there. If you ever think about it, quality beats the crap out of size any day. DL wins!
