Yeah, I Don't Think So

Lately the news has been riddled with stories about inappropriate chats between grown-ups (can we still consider them grown-up, cause except for their biological age, they certainly are not) and teenagers. 20/20 has been doing exposes capturing these perverts on-line and on camera. Some of them look very next-door-neighbor-hey-weren't-you-in-church-last-week-I-think-I-teed-off-with-your-golf-group-our-kids-do-first-grade-together kinda guys. Others look exactly the way we think or would imagine they would, based on the stereo-types created by late night television movie of the week characters. Frankly, I'm a little sickened that so many of these creeps exist.

One man has gained some air-time because of his recent actions. As the investigations delve deeper, his story has becomes more chum for a media feeding frenzy. One of the latest additions to his story are claims of his own sexual molestation (which allegedly involves clergymen of an unidentified denomination). There are also claims of alcohol abuse. I'm not particularly good at putting two and two together, but I'm adding these claims up and coming up with a person trying to gain public sympathy, understanding, or someone trying to justify their actions.

I personally don't think this should be about the skeletons in this man's closet, but about the skeletons he has now created and placed in his victim's closets. And instead of cleaning up his own mess, he just shoved it in someone else's way.

  • Pedophilia is Age Old, really. Roman nobleman often had affairs with their boy-servants all the time.

Finally, the media has caught up with this abhorration and exposes this terrible behavior.

A vast majority of people that are sexually abused/molested do NOT become abusers themselves. That's a huge myth.

  • This is called the "Poor Me" factor. When people don't take responsability for themselves, it's easier to put the blame on others. It comes in all shapes and degrees. I know plenty of these poor me's and let me tell you, it's not pretty.

  • You'd think that those people that had such a rotten childhood, or were molested themselves, or whatever, would use this in such a way as to make their own lives better, and those of the people around them, and not repeat the horror others have committed. They should know that it is wrong, and know the harm it does, and work at NOT doing the same thing. (Sorry, badly worded, but I hope you know what I mean)
    Have a great weekend, Angel.

  • Those 20/20 things are quite eye opening. But at least there is a small consolation on how these assholes are treated in prison.

  • Child molesters are
    devastating - and yes -
they are our next door neighbors
    which is terrifying.

  • You seem to have an inordinate interest in homosexuality. First, you were supposedly scandalized by deatils in a gay blog that you obviously read very carefully, despite the clear warning of gay content in the title to the blog. And now you take the time to make sure that everyone understands how disgusted you are with a man who has had only verbal, non sexual contact with a 16 year old (above the age of consent in most of the world).

The textbook interpretation of your interest is that you yourself have a problem with your own sexual orientation. You sound like a mark Foley in the making!

  • That's why I try not to watch the news on the telly. So disturbing what they show.

  • Chat is becoming dangerous. I like chat a lot and it's a very useful communication. The parents of children who use chat must be very careful! That's the only way they can prevent their children being targets of these predators
